Obituary for Olga D. Huddleston

Olga D. Huddleston
Olga D. Huddleston, devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, peacefully passed away on June 2nd, 2018 at her home with her loving family by her side. She was 86 years old. Olga was born on April 20th, 1932 in Millinocket, Maine, the daughter of Tarquinio and Antoinette (Moscone) Falone of Little Italy. She was a graduate of Stearns High School class of 1950.
Olga’s career started shortly after graduating from High School when she answered an ad in a Portland Maine newspaper to interview for a flight attendant with Northeast Airlines (now known as Delta Airlines) in Boston, Massachusetts. A day after the interview, she was hired and her love for flying began. Her journey in the sky continued for several years. She loved to share her stories about all the great flights, (and the not so great flights) as well as all the interesting people she met along the way.
In 1959 she married David J. Huddleston of Falmouth, ME. and shortly after started a family. While living in Portland, Maine she worked at the AAA Travel agency until she moved back to Millinocket to be with her family and to raise her two young daughters.
Olga was hired at Great Northern Paper company where her career continued to advance. She worked as an administrative assistant to the Millinocket mill’s manager for several years until she was promoted to Safety Supervisor at GNP’s East Millinocket mill. She retired as the mills Personnel Director. Shortly after her retirement, she was invited back to the mills to provide consultant services to the Personnel department and for mill contract negotiations.
With a strong will to enjoy her life independently and creatively, Olga lived each day her way. She was so proud of her Italian heritage and always enjoyed sharing stories about her family and friends growing up in her beloved Little Italy. Olga was not afraid of hard work and it showed in everything she accomplished. She was an artist, self proclaimed carpenter, drywall expert, furniture builder and most importantly, a phenomenal cook. She will always be remembered for her homemade Italian pasta dishes especially her sauce and 5”x5” ricotta ravioli, her meatballs, Gnocchi, Pasta e Fagioli, Cacciatore and her Pizzelles at Christmas time - her favorite holiday. She always said, “its not about the measurements in a recipe, its about the flavor”. And when the wind blew north in Little Italy, neighbors claimed they could smell her cooking all the way down to the end of York Street to Giachetti’s laundromat.
Olga was pre-deceased by her father Tarquinio Falone, her mother Antoinette, sister Alta, brothers Armand, Henry, Johnny, and Goering (“Sonny”). She is survived by her two daughters, Lisa Arsenault and husband Stephen, Hilary Cyr, a son-in-law Mark Cyr, a brother Kenneth Falone, sisters Linda Doyle and Cheryl Brunette and brother-in-law John “Jack” Brunette. She will be greatly missed by her five grandchildren whom she proudly adored, Anthony Arsenault and Fiancé Katie St Ours, Hilary (Arsenault) Campbell and husband Benjamin, Cameron Cyr, Evan Cyr, Alison Cyr and her new great granddaughter Camille Rose Arsenault. As well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the wonderful women who provided in home care so lovingly and compassionately to Mom during the last three years of her life - Jessie, Lisa, Evelyn, Kim, Trudy, and Donna. Olga’s true angels and our new family members. We will be forever grateful. The family would like to thank Nancy Theriault, RN and Debbie Kranich, RN, with Community Health & Counseling for the outstanding care they provided to Mom. Our love always to Mrs. Lee Norton and to our Uncle John and Aunt Patti DiMatteo.
The love and devotion Olga had for her family and her friends will never be questioned nor forgotten. She spent her entire life caring for and worrying about everyone else but herself. Olga was a self-sacrificing beautiful lady and an inspiration to all who knew her.
There will be no visiting hours. A devout catholic, Olga requested that there be a mass held in her honor at Christ The Divine Mercy Parish, St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 19 Colby Street, Millinocket on Friday, June 8th at 200 p.m. followed by graveside services at the Millinocket Cemetery.
