Obituary

Millinocket - Mary Metallic Fraser, 99, died Dec. 16, 2019 at a Lincoln nursing home. She was born July 12, 1920 in Restigouche (now Listuguj, Quebec on the First Nation reserve, the daughter of Lawrence and Christiane Metallic. Mary was proud of her native heritage, and instilled that pride in her children and grandchildren.
When she was 21, Mary moved to Millinocket, where in 1943 she married Robert “Bob” Fraser, a long-time employee of Great Northern Paper Co. During their 59 years of marriage, the couple raised four children, and following Bob’s retirement travelled extensively in Canada and the United States. Mary’s greatest pleasure was hosting and attending family gatherings, visiting relatives and participating in Pow-Wow in Listuguj.
When not enjoying her family, Mary was an accomplished league bowler and regularly joined her many friends in BINGO and card games. She was a devoted member of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Millinocket, and for more than 50 years was an active member of its Daughters of Isabella
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Robert “Bob” Fraser; sons, William, and his wife Janet Fraser, and Terrance Edward Fraser; her parents, Lawrence and Christiane Metallic; and siblings, Daniel, Stella, Patrick, Bella, Alexander, Howard, Lucy, Irene, Margaret-Dolly and Robert.
She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Hill of California, Bridget and husband Mark Woodward of Bangor, and son Richard and Denise Fraser of Auburn; and a sister-in-law, Mary Metallic of Listuguj, Que.
Mary also leaves 16 grandchildren, whom she cherished: Robert and Diana Mott of California, Jeffrey and Elena Mott of Texas, Stephanie Hill of California, Summer and Matthew Hart of New York, Jeffrey and Mary Fraser of Massachusetts, Matthew and Lynn Fraser of Massachusetts, Doug and Michelle Fraser of North Carolina, Margaret and Paul Cyr of Massachusetts, Scott Bodford of California, Christiana and Joel Cough of Massachusetts; Zachary Woodward and Christine McAvoy of Holden, Dan and Laurie Wyman of Monmouth, Sarah and Brad Tuttle of Bangor, Katie Fraser of Auburn, Emily Fraser of Bangor and Brian Raymond of Virginia; 19 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and many loving nieces and nephews. She also is survived by two dear friends, Delia Cummings and Sue Hart.
Mary’s final days were made comfortable by the professional, devoted staff of Colonial Health Care in Lincoln and Beacon Hospice of Bangor. The family extends its deepest thanks to all who were involved in caring for her.
Friends are invited to visit with the family Saturday, Dec. 21, at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. for prayers and remembrance. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated during the summer at Christ the Divine Mercy Parish, St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, with interment to follow in the Millinocket Cemetery. Details with date and time of service will be announced at a later date.
The family requests that donations in Mary’s name be made to the Katahdin Area Support Group, P.O. Box 374, Millinocket, ME., 04462.

To Bridget, Liz and families,
We were Communion ministers who visited Mary when she was at the Bangor facility. We loved her warmth, laughter and fond stories that she shared. We often had discussions about the Red Sox. She was clearly a special lady and we miss her. Please accept our heartfelt sympathy and prayers. It was obvious she was well loved by her family. - - Joan and Mary.

My condolences to everyone. I loved her very much and miss her too. I miss the "good ole days" with all the family gatherings and the laughs so hard that we can't catch our breath! Nana was a wonderful lady who raised a great family. She was a very special person. She will forever be missed and loved.

Lizz Bridget and families,

We were so sorry to hear of Mary’s passing. What a loss to so many people. She was such a special person, and I really got to know her well from calling Bingo, helping her with her cards, and her letting me know when I was calling to fast. She will be missed by a lot of people. You all were so blessed to have her for such a long time. And you all were so great to her. My heart breaks for you all, it will take a long time to just get through the loss. God be with each and every one of you, your in my thoughts and prayers...
