East Millinocket – Mary Joanne Farmer, 79, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at her home in East Millinocket. She was born November 9, 1941 in Wallagrass, the daughter of Honore` and Anna (Caron) Saucier.

As a young girl, Joanne’s mother died, and she went to live with her older sister, Rosa Bouchard in Millinocket. Her nieces and nephews there became as close as siblings growing up. Joanne was a graduate of St. Martin of Tours High School, class of 1960. She married Robert Farmer in 1961, and they lived in East Millinocket, where they raised their family. For a period of time, she worked for Quoddy Building Center in Millinocket. Joanne worked as a medical secretary for Drs. Krasuski, Mason, and Hamlin, and for many years. Joanne was a devoted communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in East Millinocket, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a member of the Prayer Group. She belonged to St. Ann’s Circle of the Daughters of Isabella, where she was a past regent, vice regent, and treasurer. Joanne also belonged to the Women’s Pitch Club, and the Quilting Guild. Her favorite pastimes were quilting and her daily walks around town with her good friends. Joanne loved spending summers at the family camp on Cedar Lake, as well as family gatherings. She will be remembered as a wonderful cook, and a loyal and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Robert L. Farmer; five children, Robert Farmer and his wife Lori, Julie Achorn and her husband Jay, Gene Farmer and his wife Tracey, Mary Birmingham and her husband Rand, and Chris Farmer and his wife Cori; nine grandchildren, Matthew, Ashleigh, Brian, Candice, Felicia, Blake, Dylan, Zachary, and Aiden; eight great grandchildren; a brother, Leo Saucier and his wife Zemi; a brother in law, Joseph Farmer and his wife Emily; a sister in law, Marilyn Farmer; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Joanne was predeceased by a grandson, Aaron, and 11 siblings, Adrien, Aldrick, Carmen, Claudette, Gorman, Rosa, Norman, Harold, Theresa, Alve, and Lorraine; and a brother in law, John Farmer.

Friends are invited to visit with the family 2-4 & 6-8 PM Wednesday, November 18 at the Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack Street, Millinocket. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Thursday, November 19, 2020 at Christ the Divine Mercy Parish, St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 58 Cedar Street, East Millinocket, with the Rev. Sending my sincerest condolences on the loss of someone so special; I am only learning this today. I truly enjoyed working with Joanne and her unique laugh could be heard anywhere at anytime. I particularly remember going on the annual “Mystery Trip” that Nancy DeWitt organized. You could always count on Joanne to be “footloose and fancy free” and enjoying every minute. I can still hear your laugh today and will cherish memories with you always.
