Obituary for William A. "Bill" Hughes

Millinocket and Bangor –) On Thursday, February 23, 2023, our dear brother William Albert Hughes (Bill) went home to be with his Lord and Savior after suffering complications due from a stroke.
Bill was born in Millinocket on October 21, 1956. After graduating from Stearns High School in 1976 Bill enlisted in the Army, where he served a short tour as an Infantryman. After that, Bill joined the Navy where he served as a firefighter on the USS Nimitz. After leaving the service our brother attended NMVTI, then worked a short while at GNP before he moved to California. He lived there several years before returning to Maine to settle in Bangor.
Bill was a quiet man who was fond of drawing and writing poetry, collecting stamps, coins, and baseball cards. In his youth he enjoyed skiing, camping, fishing and hunting. A genuine fan of the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox, he enjoyed attending games with his brother Steve. Bill always enjoyed good music and films. Our brother was a thoughtful, caring and compassionate man who was known to render assistance whenever he saw its need.
Bill was predeceased by his parents Rena and Albert Hughes and his loving furry companion Kitty. He is survived by son Greg Libby, daughter-in-law Jessica and grandchildren Connor, Miabella, Calliope, Owen, Flynn and Noelle; all of Titusville, Florida. Our brother leaves behind five siblings and their spouses: sister Pamela White and husband Ralph David of East Millinocket; sister Vickie Baron and husband Phil, brother Steve Hughes, sister Sandy Hartley and husband Ronnie, all of Millinocket as well as Bruce Hughes and wife Jamilyn of Glenburn. Bill is also survived by seven nephews and a niece: Jonathan and Mark White, Derek and Zachary Hartley, Jason Baron, Danisha, Baxter and Cooper Hughes. Bill also leaves behind several aunts and Uncles: Mary Santerre, Ernestine Quakenbush and Husband Harold, Maryanne St.Peter and husband Harold, Ernie Santerre and wife Ann all from Millinocket, as well as Joseph Santerre and wife Pat of Colchester, Connecticut. He also leaves behind several friends and cousins.
Bill died peacefully at Katahdin Health Care with all his siblings by his side. His family extends gratitude to KHC for taking such good care of him and making him feel special. His funeral and committal service with military honors will be held later this spring. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, Millinocket.
