Obituary for William C. Conroy

Mattawamkeag – William C. Conroy, 76, passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2023 surrounded
by family, at a Bangor hospital. He was born March 12, 1946, in Lincoln, the son of Eugene C.
and Elizabeth M. (Muise) Conroy.
Bill grew up in Massachusetts, where he met “his world”, Judith Monahan, who he married and
spent 54 years with until his passing a few days ago. While living in Massachusetts, he was given
the nickname “Buckskin”, a name that stayed with him for life. In the early 1980’s, he and his
family moved to Mattawamkeag, which became their home. In his younger years, Bill enjoyed
hunting and fishing, and as his family grew his wife, children, grandchildren, and great
grandchildren consumed his free time and love. He enjoyed spending time outside, especially
tending his flowers, working in his garden, and going for rides and checking out yard sales. Bill
also loved playing Bingo and was a dedicated gamer.
Bill is survived by his wife, Judy Conroy; three children, Theresa Jacobs and her husband Allen,
William Conroy and his wife Kristin, and Kerri McAlpine and her husband Shawn; seventeen
grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; siblings Marion Stanley, Lawrence Conroy and his wife
Karen, and Russell and his wife Barbara Conroy; special friends Guy “Squirrel” Russell and his
wife Angie; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bill always held a special place in his heart
for his mother, Elizabeth, who predeceased him, as well as his father, siblings Donald, Mitchell,
and Richard, a brother in law, Fred Stanley, and a grandson Justin McAlpine.
Friends are invited to visit with the family 9-10 AM Saturday, February 25 at the Lamson Funeral
Home, Clay Chapel, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, where funeral services will be at 10 AM with the Rev.
Fr. Anthony K. Chinnaiyan, HGN officiating. Interment will be at the Mattawamkeag Cemetery
in the springtime. Messages of condolence may be expressed at Bill’s Book of Memories at
