Obituary for Wallace D. "Wally" Mitchell

Sherman – Wallace D. “Wally” Mitchell, 67, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 23, 2022. He was born August 10, 1954 in Sherman, the son of Dean and Colleen (Welch) Mitchell.

Wally grew up in Sherman, and was a graduate of Katahdin High School, class of 1972. He worked for Great Northern Paper Company in Millinocket for 20 years, and then owned and operated “Wally’s Garage” full time until his death. Wally loved his family, hunting, and fishing, and will be most remembered for his love of fast cars, motorbikes, ATV’s, and basically anything with wheels and a motor. Through his garage, Wally sold used cars, performed automobile service, towing, and operated a plowing business over the years. A devoted and loyal Christian man, Wally was an active member of the Gideons, and was personally responsible for handing out thousands of copies of the New Testament and Bible. He was a member of the Tri Town Baptist Church in East Millinocket. Wally will be remembered by those who knew him for his love of his family, driving fast cars, and telling stories about driving fast cars. The golden streets of Heaven may have a few new black marks this week, and we look forward to hearing all about it one day from Wally!

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara A. (Smallwood) Mitchell; three sons, Keith Wallace and his wife Nicole, Jeff Mitchell and his wife Amanda, and James Mitchell; a daughter, Crystal Mitchell and her fiancé Kevin O’Roak; grandchildren Keith Jr., Bradley, Ethan, Olivia, Chrisopher, Caden, Hope, and Isabelle; sisters Eloise MacArthur and her husband Arthur, Martha Landry and husband Raymond, and Deanna Hare; stepsisters; Pamela Guerrette and her husband Ronnie, Alice Gonyar and husband Robert; Kim Shaffer and husband Doug; step-brothers; Scott Thomas and wife Jane and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
