Obituary for Virginia "Ginny" Rideout (Brown)

Virginia "Ginny" Rideout (Brown)
Millinocket – Virginia “Ginny” Rideout, 87, wife of the late Eugene Rideout, died Thursday, May 17, 2018 at a Millinocket health care facility. She was born February 19, 1931 in Cumberland Center, the daughter of Thomas N. and Alice (Romans) Brown, Sr.
Ginny was an active member of the Millinocket Emblem Club and the Bangor Emblem Club #223. She was elected State President of the Emblem Club in 1995-96. She was the only member from Millinocket to hold that honor. Ginny made many friends through the Emblem Club as she traveled throughout the state from Presque Isle to Sanford.
Ginny loved to sing and dance. At age 9, she and her younger sister, Joan, sang at the Cumberland County Fair and won First Prize. Ken MacKenzie asked them to join his show after winning First Prize, but their Dad didn’t have a car and no one to drive them to Portland for rehearsals. Ginny and Gene were members of the Penobscot Valley Acres Campground from 1997-2003 and Ginny continued to be a member until 2013. Ginny loved yard sales and could spot a sign at 150 feet! She loved to paint and sew and bake cookies for her family. One Christmas, she made pj’s for all the grandchildren. At age 81, Ginny decided to call it quits with camping as it was getting to be too much for her.
For more than 30 years Gene and Ginny owned and operated Rideout’s Market in Millinocket. She is survived by four sons, Gary and his wife Gail, Tom and his wife Sharon, Rick and his wife Annette, all of Millinocket, and Dan and his wife Maryann of Medway; eight grandchildren, Jason, Jeremy, and Tim, all of Millinocket, Jessica Putonti and husband Steve of Lakeway, Texas, Sarah of Saco, Aaron and his wife Nicole of Eliot, Melissa of Old Orchard, and Andrew of Freeport; four great grandchildren, Elaina of Lakeway, TX, Isaiah Rideout of Monticello, Sophia Rideout of Millinocket, and Eliza Rideout of Eliot; two sistesr, Joan Ranger and husband Lloyd of Falmouth, and Marion Meader of Bath; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her husband, Ginny was predeceased by her parents, a grandson, Dwight Rideout, a daughter in law, Laurie Osgood, five brothers, Thomas Brown, Jr., Harry, John, Ralph, and Howard; a sister Alice Rideout, and a special brother in law, Arnold Rideout.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caring staff at Katahdin Health Care for their extraordinary care and many courtesies extended to Ginny and the Rideout family during her stay there.
