Mattawamkeag / Lincoln: Vincent P. Rush, Sr, husband of Rena M. Glidden-Rush, passed away at home on December 30, 2020, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born November 21, 1944, in Houlton, ME, son of John Harry and Kathleen (Mahon) Rush. Vincent was a loving husband and father. He was very devoted to his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was an extremely hard worker and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He loved going camping, country music, going to music jams, dancing and spending winters in Florida. He has been a Third Degree in the Knights of Columbus Council No. 1859, Benedicta for fifty years. Vincent was a Selectman in Mattawamkeag for several years. He is an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lincoln, ME. He served as member of the Parish Council for several years. He retired from the East Millinocket Mill after 42 years, during which he was a Union Representative for the Papermakers Union. In addition, he also worked for Thompson Trucking for several years. He owned Rush Trucking Company doing trucking, excavation and selling wood.
He grew up on the family farm in Benedicta, ME. He attended elementary school in Benedicta and graduated in 1963 from Ricker High School, Houlton, ME. In 1964, he married his high school sweetheart Jeannette Conroy and moved to Mattawamkeag, ME. He built their home in 1966 where they raised their four children. In addition to his parents and siblings, he was predeceased by his wife, Jeannette, and son, Lee.
On October 11, 2014, he married Rena Glidden. In addition to his wife, Rena, he is survived by three children and their spouses, Vincent Jr. and Kelly, Lori York and Galen, and Jason and Kendra; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; Two stepsons and their families, Stephen and Holly Glidden and their 2 children, and Jonathan Glidden and his 2 children; his sister-in-law Rose Rush, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He really enjoyed Saturday mornings with his coffee buddies. A special thanks to Doug Ludden, Dale Stanley and Paul Thornton who visited often and drove him to his treatments. The family would like to thank Northern Lights Health and CHCS New Hope Hospice for their excellent care and compassion.
Friends are invited to visit with the family 11 AM-12 PM Saturday, January 2, 2021 at the Lamson Funeral Home, Clay Chapel, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, where funeral services will be held at 12 PM with the Rev. Richard Malo presiding. Interment will be at the Mattawamkeag Cemetery.
