Obituary for Thurber Almon Lovely

Lincoln – Thurber Almon Lovely, 93, passed away peacefully January 26, 2022 in Bangor, Maine. He was born August 8, 1928 in Fort Fairfield, Maine, the son of Sherman and Queenie Lovely.
Thurber graduated from Fort Fairfield High School, class of 1946 and the Aroostook State Teachers College, class of 1958 with a bachelor’s degree in education. He proudly served with the US Army beginning in 1951 and was honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1956.
He married Carla Howe June 15, 1956 and was a devoted husband for over 60 years until her passing in 2019. His life centered around his wife and family as it grew to include children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Thurber was a 5th grade teacher in Lincoln for many years and always enjoyed talking to former students wherever he went.
In addition to his wife Carla and his parents, he was predeceased by siblings: Marjorie, John, Ruth, Walter, Arbor, Anne, and Eugene (Dint).
He is survived by two daughters, Vicki Smith and her husband, Kevin of Lawrence, KS, and Lisa Chambers and her husband Mark of Brewer, ME; grandchildren Eric Chambers and his wife, Kate, and Katie Tomasko and her husband, Matthew, all of Brewer, ME; great-grandchildren Andy Chambers, Molly Tomasko, and Miles Tomasko of Brewer, ME; twin sister Thelma “Tazy” White of Royal Palm Beach, FL, sister Lillace Gallagher of Caribou, ME, brother Luther Lovely of St. Petersburg, FL; brother-in-law Frederic Howe and his wife Diane of Falmouth, ME; special niece Marti Lilly of Middletown, MD and many other nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give heartfelt thanks for the wonderful care the staff provided at Maine Veterans Home of Bangor where Thurber had resided for the last few years.
