Obituary for Theresa Marie Peters (Leavitt)
Mattawamkeag - Theresa Marie (Leavitt) Peters, 84, wife of the late Maurice T. (Dick) Peters, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, Jan. 20, 2023 at the home of her daughter. She was born to Odber Josiah and Gladys May (Springer) Leavitt on June 17, 1938 in Stacyville.
Theresa graduated from Sherman Mills High School in 1956 as Salutatorian of her class. On June 9, 1956, she married Maurice Peters and they lived a couple years in Hawaii and in Mattawamkeag until they passed away.
As a teenager, Theresa babysat many children and picked potatoes for many farmers in the Sherman area. She enjoyed many hobbies, i.e; pie making, sewing, quilting, rug braiding and sending cards and gifts to her family, friends and even acquaintances.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Feb. 15, 2015, her sister, Gayleen Grace on May 8, 2016. She is survived by two sons, Michael and his wife, Lissa of Daytona Beach, FL; Mark and his wife, Nadia of Mattawamkeag; one daughter, Elisabeth and her husband, Joe McCaffrey of South Portland; two grandsons, Nathan Peters of Fremont, CA and Jacob Peters and wife Erna, of Watertown, NY; three sisters; Lois and Gerald Harrington of Oakland, Louise and Scott Harmon of Otis, and Lydia Leavitt of Sherman Mills and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Theresa attended church at Calvary Temple in E. Millinocket and Zion Pentecostal in Mattawamkeag in the evenings. There will be a graveside service in the spring in Mattawamkeag.
