East Millinocket – Theresa A. Dentremont, 88, died Friday, August 21, 2020 at a Millinocket hospital. She was born March 4, 1932 in East Millinocket, the daughter of L. Burdeen Nicholson and Mary (Coyle) MacDonald Nicholson.
Theresa grew up in East Millinocket and was a graduate of Schenck High School, class of 1949. She graduated from Husson College in 1951, earning an Associates degree in the Executive Secretary program. Theresa earned an honorary Associate of Science Degree from Husson University in 1995. After graduating from college she worked at Great Northern Paper Company as an executive secretary for the mill managers before taking time to raise her family of 6 children. Later she worked for the towns of East Millinocket and Medway as Town Clerk and Tax Collector.
Theresa was a life long communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and always lived by a strong moral compass. She was a kind, compassionate woman who always thought of others before herself. Her outlook on life was unwaveringly positive and she always found the good in every person and every situation. Theresa's happiest times were family gatherings, holidays, and spending the last 50 summers making beautiful memories at Cedar Lake. Her hands were always busy quilting, sewing, knitting, and crocheting beautiful gifts for her family and community members. She was the anchor of her family and will be missed beyond measure.
She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Franklin A. Dentremont; five children, Valerie Whitmer-Hammond and her husband Robert, of Gouldsboro, Julie M. Willey and her husband Arthur, Jr.,of Millinocket, Nancy Whitmer Norris and her husband Steven, of Orrington, John Alan Whitmer and his wife Laura, of Windham, and Christine Whitmer, of Medway, and her significant other, David A. Tinkham, a stepson Frank Dentremont, Jr. of Gulf Shores, AL; four grandchildren, Bryan Sweet, Seth Whitmer, Vanessa Norris, and Matty Norris; a great granddaughter, Ali Reynolds; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins of whom she was very fond of. Theresa was predeceased by a son, Thomas M. Whitmer, and a brother, John Robert Nicholson.
