Obituary for Sheila Rae Haynes (Boddy)

Millinocket -- Sheila Rae Boddy Haynes passed away peacefully on September 13, 2020, at a
Lincoln healthcare facility with her husband by her side. Sheila was born on September 22,
1943, to Eugene and Nadine (Tingley) Boddy at Millinocket, Maine. She was a graduate of
Stearns High School in 1961 and earned her Bachelor's degree in education at Farmington State
Teachers College in 1965. Sheila taught in the Old Town, East Millinocket, and Millinocket
school systems for nearly 18 years. The last several years of her career she taught sixth grade
math and science at Millinocket Middle School.
Sheila went on a blind date in July of 1968, and 18 days later became engaged to Jasper (Sandy)
Haynes of Millinocket. She was employed by the East Millinocket School system at the time
and had to wait until Christmas vacation to get married on December 21, 1968. The couple
settled in Millinocket and a year later moved into their home on Knox Street where they would
live together for the next fifty years.
Sheila and Sandy became the parents of two wonderful children, Joellen Corrie born in 1972 and
Arran Jonathan in 1975.
Together, Sheila and family would enjoy many happy years together, spending summers at camp
on South Twin Lake, taking their children to Scotland and Disney World, and later after
graduating from college each received a special Caribbean vacation sailing on a windjammer
with their parents.
In the mid 80s, Sheila began having health issues and would be diagnosed with a rare muscle
disease, mitochondrial myopathy, that would lead to a lessening of physical ability and strength
over the years. She continued to teach a few more years and then, due to declining health, was
forced to retire. Fortunately, in the earlier years of their marriage, she was able to canoe the
Allagash, snowmobile, and scuba dive, among other activities.
Sheila was preceded in death by her mother and father, and by brother-in-law Edward Johnston.
Besides her husband, she is survived by daughter Joellen and boyfriend Joel Walker of Buxton,
Maine, and son Arran and his wife Jolene Chonko of Washington, DC, grandchildren Owen and
Max Duplisea and Elizabeth and Alexander Haynes. She is also survived by her sister
Jean Marie Boddy-Johnston of Milford, Maine, her brother William Boddy and his wife Jean of
Millinocket, sisters in law Betsey Esancy of China, Lucy Carey and her husband Henry of
Thomaston and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
For the past year, Sheila has been very well cared for at Colonial Health Care in Lincoln, for
which the family is most grateful.
Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, September 11, 2021, at the Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack Street, Millinocket, with the Rev. Terry Given officiating. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, Millinocket.
