Shawn Michael Boutaugh, 39, passed away unexpectedly September 5, 2022 in Imperial Beach, CA while on vacation. He was born in Millinocket, ME on February 21, 1983, the son of Vinal and Ann (Hines) Boutaugh. He is survived by his mother Ann, his sister Christie Brown and her husband Steve, his brother Thomas (T.J.) Boutaugh and his wife Carolina, Brother William (Bill) Tapley and his wife Andrea, as well as nephews Colby and Curtis Brown, Joshua Boutaugh, Seth Tapley, and niece Emma Tapley.
Shawn graduated from Stearns High School in Millinocket, ME in 2001. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 2002 and was assigned to USTRANSCOM until 2005. From 2005-2008 he served on the USS NIMITZ based out of San Diego serving 2 deployments. He worked as an intelligence specialist from E4-E5 and was an imagery analyst working with emerging technologies supporting Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He also deployed with the USS PINKNEY. From 2008-2011 He was stationed at the Naval Special Warfare Mission Support Center in San Diego. 2011-2013 was spent with Special Reconnaissance Team One, also in San Diego where he helped provide intelligence support to Navy SEAL teams. He was very fond of the West Coast and enjoyed coming home to spend time with his family, to have a taste of Maine winter, and for hunting and fishing seasons. After his time spent in service, he remained a resident of Imperial Beach, CA, where he cherished many friends who were like family. He was known for his Maine accent and his outgoing and kind ways by his California friends. He completed his bachelor’s degree in business graduating from the University of Phoenix and was currently working on his Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling through Southern New Hampshire University. Most recently Shawn had resided in Richmond, VA working at American Family Fitness as well as Poe’s Pub where he was enjoying both opportunities.
A service of remembrance in Maine will be held Saturday October 8, 2022 2:00PM at the Millinocket Cemetery with Military honors. A memorial service in California will be held on September 25, 2022 at 10 am at the VFW Post 4577 123 Palm Avenue, Imperial Beach, CA.
