Millinocket - Scott Somers, 62, unexpectedly left us way too soon on Friday, December 14, 2018. Scott was born September 14, 1956, the son of Gordon and Joyce (Perkins) Somers. He attended Millinocket schools and graduated in 1974 from Stearns High School. After graduating, Scott worked at GNP for a year before attending EMVTI where he graduated with a degree in Machine Tool. Upon graduation in 1977, Scott was once again hired by GNP in the Engineering Department where he began a 41-year career in Engineering. At GNP he was involved in many significant projects including the rebuild of #11 paper machine. It was there that he met the love of his life, Jill. During the early years of his career, Scott went on to earn his Engineering degree. Scott remained at GNP until 2014, at which time he went to work at St. Croix Tissue in Baileyville. There he played a major role in the construction and start up of two new tissue machines, an accomplishment of which he was very proud. Scott was a highly respected Process Control Engineer. He earned the respect of everyone he came in contact with. Scott was an accomplished musician, an avid outdoorsman, but of all his passions, nothing brought Scott more happiness than spending as much time as possible at his camp with family and friends. Whether it be floating in the Elbow on the pontoon boat sporting one of his many colorful Hawaiian shirts, mastering the grill, sitting at the campfire for his infamous jam sessions, ice fishing, captaining the boat for his much-anticipated July 4th boat parade (his boat was the only participant), or working on one of the many projects that he always had going, camp was by far Scott's "Happy Place". Scott was affectionately known in the camp community as "Mayhem". Throughout his life, Scott played guitar, bass guitar, stand-up bass, and mandolin in different bands. He was always learning new songs to share and play with fellow musicians. He coached his son's youth hockey teams and his daughters' youth basketball team. Scott will be sadly missed by his best friend and wife of 37 years, Jill (Michaud) Somers, his children, Drew of Norridgewock, Dayna and her husband Chris Wener of Winterville, and Hannah and her partner Timmy Rinaldi of Millinocket and Bethel. Scott was Papa to Hadley and Lane, who were the lights of his life. Also surviving Scott are his in-laws Sandra and Neal Michaud, Larry and Barbara Michaud, special niece Natalie, and his ice fishing buddy and nephew, Peter, all of Millinocket. Scott also leaves his mother Joyce of Brewer, his siblings, Patricia and Arnold Madore of Millinocket, Daryl and Bill Noble of Tennessee, and Martin and Laurie Somers of Bradley. Scott was predeceased by his father, Gordon Somers. Scott will also be dearly missed by his little black rescue cat, Miss Annie, and his six granddogs. A celebration of Scott’s life will be held Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at Lamson Funeral Home. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 12:00-2:00 with the service at 2:00 with Father Bruce Sicket. A light lunch and a time of sharing memories will follow the service in the basement of St. Martin's of Tours Catholic Church. Scott's family would like to thank the Calais ambulance crew, Dr. Chris, Dee and Deb of the ED at the Calais Regional Hospital for their kind and compassionate care extended to Scott and Jill. The family would also like to encourage friends attending the service to wear their favorite Hawaiian or flannel shirt in Scott's honor. In lieu of flowers, if you wish to do so, donations may be made to a scholarship fund for his beloved grandchildren.
