Obituary for Sanford Earl Chesley Jr.

SANFORD EARL CHESLEY, JR. Westbrook – Beloved son, brother, uncle and father Sanford Earl Chesley, Jr. passed on Sep 8, 2022 in Westbrook.

Born March 22, 1957, in Waltham Mass, the son of Sanford Earl Chesley and Rita (Auclair) Chesley.
He grew up in the Howland / Enfield area, loved Coldstream Pond and everything about the Maine outdoors including skiing, boating and fishing.

Sanford graduated from Penobscot Valley High School in 1975 and went on to get his BS in Mechanical Engineering Technology from the University of Maine, Orono.

He was passionate about music and spent time as a radio DJ in college. During and after his DJ days, Sanford was known to have a top-of-the-line stereo system and a killer record collection.

After he earned his degree, he got a position as a manufacturing engineer at Olamon Industries where he met his wife Jeanine Carmichael. Sanford and Jeanine moved to the Portland area and raised their daughter Samantha Adams and their son Jared Chesley.

Sanford moved on from Olamon and got a job as a manufacturing engineer at Nichols-Portland until his retirement.

Sanford loved being an engineer because it allowed him to work with his hands and actually build things that he could show people. He continued this passion in retirement by crafting hand carved walking sticks.

Sanford is survived by his mother Rita Auclair Chesley, his son Jared Chesley, sister Kathleen Chesley Knight, brother Stephen Chesley and wife Tammy, sister Marie Chesley and wife Margaret, sister Elizabeth Chesley Covert. We, Jeanine, Jared and Samantha, along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces, cousins and friends will miss him dearly.

A viewing will be held at 12pm to 1pm Saturday Sep 17, 2022 at Lamson Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln Maine. A memorial service will follow. There will then be a procession to the West Enfield cemetery where Sanford will be interred next to his father.

The family asks that you consider gifts in Sanford’s memory to the Autism Society of Maine or the American Heart Association.
