Obituary for Russel L. Ireland Sr.
Chester – Russel L. Ireland, Sr., 70, husband of the late Patricia (Thompson) Ireland, died Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at his home in Chester, surrounded by his family. He was born January 9, 1950 in Lincoln, the son of Obadiah G. and Alfreda M. (Brown) Ireland.
Russel grew up in Chester, and was a graduate of Mattanawcook High School, earning his GED in 1983. Russel loved being a truck driver, spending his career hauling logs and working in the woods. He enjoyed being in the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and trapping when he was younger. Having an understanding of mechanical things, he liked working on his vehicles and keeping them running well. A friend of Bill W.’s, AA changed his life for the better. Russel will be remembered as a hard working family man, and those who knew him will miss him with fond remembrances.
Russel is survived by his children, Melissa Crockett, Russel Ireland, Jr. and his wife Heather, Victor Ireland, Gene Lee and his wife Meredith, and Bobbi-Jo Morrison; step children Tyra Gantnier and her husband James, Jeremy Hunter, Cindy Hunter, and Jack Thompson and his wife Nicole; twenty two grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; siblings Vernon Ireland and his wife Debi, Herman Ireland and his wife Carol, and Beulah Gooch; a special friend, Annette Munson;and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Russel will also be missed by his beloved dogs, Bandit and Peanut. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by a brother, Victor Ireland, and a granddaughter, Whitney Ireland.
Graveside services will be held 2 PM Monday, July 13 at the Grindstone Cemetery, Medway. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, Clay Chapel, Lincoln.
