Obituary for Rodney "Larry" McDonald

Medway- Rodney (Larry) McDonald, 70, died peacefully at home with his family by his side on June 5, 2020. Larry was born May 20, 1950, and lived in Sherman, ME. He spent his childhood there, where he learned the value of hard work on the family farm. After high school, Larry was hired in the Millinocket mill, moved to Medway, and worked in the Millinocket mill for 31 years. After the mill, he worked driving truck all over the US and Canada for 13 years, until he retired in 2015. Larry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Anyone who knew him knew what was most important to him; his family, his work, and making people laugh.


Larry was predeceased by his parents, Rodney and Gloria (Murray) McDonald, a brother, Mark McDonald, A special aunt and uncle, Gladys and Hector Murray, parents-in-law, Richard and Lonie (Caswell) Jacobs, a son-in-law, James Russell, Jr, and a stillborn baby boy named Jamey.


Larry is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 47 years, Joanne (Jacobs) McDonald of Medway; two daughters, Stacie (McDonald) Johnston and her husband Sean, Lisa (McDonald) Russell and her fiance Bruce McLean all of East Millinocket; a brother, Alan McDonald and wife Sue of Sherman, Paul McDonald and wife Becky of Enfield; two sisters, Sandra (McDonald) Sibley and her husband Bob, Joanne (McDonald) Sibley and husband Dennis of Sabattus; a sister-in-law, Kim McDonald of Sherman, seven grandchildren; Dylan, Hailey, and Hannah Johnston, Cassie, Kristin, Elizabeth, and Phoebe Russell, all of East Millinocket. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews too numerous to name, a friend Harry Magoon, and a special friend who was there until the very end, Darrell King.


At Larry’s request, there will not be a funeral. Family and friends will be notified of the date and time of graveside service when that information becomes available.
