Obituary for Robert J. Tinkham

Millinocket – Robert J. Tinkham, 71, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at his home in Millinocket, after a period of declining health. He was born August 8, 1949 in Millinocket, the son of Joseph E. and Ernestine L. (Currier) Tinkham.
Robert grew up in Millinocket, and was a graduate of Stearns High School, class of 1967. He furthered his education at University of Maine at Farmington, and was a member of the Phi Sigma Pi fraternity. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from UMF with the class of 1971. Robert had a real passion for teaching, and spent his entire career as a teacher within the Millinocket School Department. He had a special talent of connecting with his students and making them feel valued. Among the many things his students will remember him for is his appreciation for and love of the music of Willie Nelson. Robert was very proud of the fact that his teaching career spanned 49 years of activity in the classroom.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary C. (Brannan) Tinkham; three children, Marcie Chasse and her husband Tyson, Katie Taylor and her husband Kirk, and Joseph Tinkham and his wife Becca; six grandchildren, Claire and Evan Chasse, Maddie, Adam, Lily, and Colton Taylor; siblings, Dianne Bilodeau and her husband George, David Tinkham; a special sister in law, Nancy Lunt; siblings in law, Thomas Brannan and his wife Joy; James Brannan and his wife Michele, Susan Upham and her husband Gary, and Louise Hartley and her husband Mike; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Robert will also be missed by his canine friend, Cooper. In addition to his parents, Robert was predeceased by a brother, Ronald Tinkham.
Graveside services will be held 1 P.M. Saturday, September 12 at the Millinocket Cemetery with the Rev. Terry Given officiating. Gifts in memory of Robert may be sent to Stearns High School, 199 State Street, Millinocket, ME 04462, for a scholarship dedicated to students entering the field of education. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, Millinocket.
