Obituary for Robert P. Spaulding Sr.

Millinocket – Robert P. Spaulding, 94, died Sunday, April 14, 2019 at Katahdin Healthcare. He was born December 17, 1924 in Brockport, New York, the son of William Richard and Mary Ursula (Hattler) Spaulding.

Robert grew up in upstate New York, moving between Brockport, Albion, and Medina. He enlisted in the New York Army Guard in 1941 and, after graduating from high school in 1942, served in the Pacific during WWII. Following his return to the U.S. after the war, he briefly attended university and worked in the insurance business. In 1950, he enlisted in the US Navy and retired from active duty in 1966 as a Master Chief Petty Officer. After completing military service, Robert started his next career with Sanders Associates (now part of Lockheed Martin) in Nashua, NH as a Field Service Representative. Following retirement from Sanders Associates, he moved to Myrtle Beach, SC, then to Brunswick, ME, and lastly to Millinocket.
Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing, and especially playing golf. He will be greatly missed and remembered by all he leaves behind.

Robert is survived by Robert Jr. and his wife Tova Clayman of Stratford, Connecticut, Catherine van Dine and her husband Pieter of Mystic, CT, Jessica Coutu and her husband Gary of Cedar Knolls, New Jersey, David Rand of Woodland Hills, California, John Rand and his wife Tammy of Greenland, New Hampshire; nine grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews; sister-in-law Joyce Baron of Millinocket and her children Chris and Carla Manzo also of Millinocket. He is predeceased by his first wife, Mary Ellen (Wasvary) of Lockport, NY and second wife Gloria (Friel Rand) of Millinocket; brothers William, Paul, John, and James, and sisters Catherine, Mary, Alice, and Suzanne.

In accordance with Robert’s wishes, funeral services will be held privately later in the spring with burial in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown, Rhode Island. Gifts in memory of Robert may be sent to the DAV, 3725 Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring, KY 41076. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, Millinocket.
