Obituary for Robert Dean "Bob/Bobby" Slowikowski

HOWLAND – Bob Slowikowski, 68, of Howland, Maine passed away at home on Monday afternoon September 5, 2022 with his best friend and constant companion & protector, “Happy Dog”, by his side. If you knew Bob then you probably knew Happy as well. Bob suffered with the pain and various complications of MS for several years, but although he did have his down days from time to time, he usually managed to maintain an upbeat attitude. Bob genuinely enjoyed life. He loved nature and being outdoors, kayaking, scuba diving, walking through the woods and fields with Happy, or just sitting in his truck looking out over the Pond Farm and watching Happy run around exploring. Although Bob liked to call himself “the hermit on the hill”, he was anything but a hermit. Except for his bad days, Bob seemed to almost never be home, always out and about, visiting with friends, shooting the breeze with people he knew at the local convenience stores or at the Transfer Station.

In 1974 Bob earned an Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston and worked for many years as a mechanical engineer for a number of different manufacturing firms in Connecticut and Massachusetts. He was most notably proud of his work with Bic Corporation where he designed, inspected and tested new assembly line equipment for the manufacture and assembly of Bic butane lighters. Bob moved from Lakeville, Massachusetts and back to his hometown of Howland in December of 2012.

Bob was born on July 30, 1954 in Waterbury, Connecticut, the son of Frank Slowikowski, Sr. and Evelyn (Dobson) Slowikowski. He was the third of six brothers. Bob is predeceased by his parents, Frank and Evelyn Slowikowski of Howland, and his younger brother, Brian Slowikowski of Howland and Lincoln. Bob is survived by his son Derrick Slowikowski & wife Jennifer (Ziulek) of Merrimack, New Hampshire; his beloved Happy of Howland; two older brothers – Frank Jr. & wife Theresa (Hughes) of Hixson, Tennessee and Richard (Rick) & wife Lori (Woznik) of Bangor, Maine; two younger brothers - James (Jim) & partner Amy Russell of Sidney, Illinois and Brent & wife Monica (Larrabee) of Bangor, Maine. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Bob will be missed by a great many people. Our lives just won’t be the same without him.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the American Legion Lee Graham Post 97 in Howland, Saturday, September 17, 12-4 p.m. Those wishing to do so are encouraged to make a donation to their local Humane Society in Bob’s memory. Messages of condolence may be expressed at Bob’s Book of Memories at www.lamsonfh.com
