Millinocket – Richard McGibbon, Sr., 89, died Thursday, January 17, 2019 at an Orono health care facility. He was born September 10, 1929 in Lewiston, the son of Llewellyn and Ella (Mank) McGibbon.
As a young man, Dick worked for Boynton Bottling of Millinocket. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict before returning home to Millinocket to work at the Great Northern Paper Company from 1953 until his retirement in 1984. After retiring, he went to work at for the Millinocket Housing Corporation, Terre Haute, from 1984 until 2009. Dick enjoyed working with his hands and had a passion for making detailed doll houses, many of which are still enjoyed around town. He served the town of Millinocket as a member of the Town Council from 1983-86. Richard also helped “Money’s Angels” with many different projects. Some may remember Richard Skinner, for whom a home was built from top to bottom, also with the help of the “Meals for Me” crowd.
In 1951 he married Nathalie “Money” Murphy and together they shared 67 happy years.
In addition to his wife, Dick is survived by two sons, Richard McGibbon, Jr. and his wife Nadine, and Thomas McGibbon and his wife Sylvia; two grandchildren, Sean McGibbon and Nichole (McGibbon) Beard and her husband Matthew; three great grandchildren, Zachary, Nicholas, and Taylor Beard; a brother, George McGibbon; and many nieces and nephews who lovingly called him “Aunt Rebecca” as they loved his cooking. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Llewellyn McGibbon, Jr., Robert McGibbon, and Lawrence McGibbon.
Friends are invited to visit with the family 9:30 – 11 A.M. Saturday, January 26 at Christ the Divine Mercy Parish, St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 19 Colby Street, Millinocket, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 A.M., with the Rev. Bruce Siket, pastor, presider. Spring interment will be at the Millinocket Cemetery. Gifts in memory of Dick may be sent to the charity of one’s choice.
