Obituary for Rene O. Bernier Sr.

Millinocket - Rene O. Bernier Sr., 77, passed away Thursday, September 3, 2020, at his residence. He was born October 7, 1942, in Millinocket, the son of Rene and Lucille (Oakes) Bernier.

Rene grew up in Millinocket and attended St. Martin Of Tours. Rene worked for the Bangor & Aroostook Railroad and then he went to work for Great Northern Paper and retired in 1998. On November 27, 1962 he married Carole Noddin and they would share almost twenty five years of marriage until her passing on November 12, 1987. On February 26, 2005 he married Claudette (Dumais) Legassey and together they would have fifteen years of marriage. Rene enjoyed hunting, fishing, and taking long rides through the woods. He loved his family very much and enjoyed every moment he shared with them.

He is survived by his wife Claudette Bernier of Millinocket, two children: Rene Bernier Jr. and his wife Pam of Nashua, NH, Dawn Stanley and her husband Jeff of Medway, two stepsons: Shawn Legassey of Portland, Kevin Legassey and his wife Lori of Prospect, CT, five grandchildren: Kris Lyn Brackett, April Stanley, Renee Stanley, Justin Bernier, Jake Kenney, five step grandchildren: Madison, Kalle, Jaden, Evan, Payton Legassey, and eight great grandchildren. He also leaves behind two brothers: Rodney Bernier and his wife Ginger of Medway, Carlton Bernier and his wife Charlotte of Millinocket, three sisters: Brenda Additon and her husband Bob of Auburn, Sheila Duplissea and her husband Gene of Millinocket, Sandra Bernier and her partner Clarence Wildes of Parsonfield, and an uncle Robert Oakes and his wife Darlene, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife Carole Bernier, three brothers: Roxie Bernier, Robert Bernier, and Rick Bernier.


A graveside service will be conducted 1 PM Friday, September 11, 2020 at Millinocket Cemetery with the Rev. Bruce Siket officiating. Those who wish to remember Rene in a special way may make gifts payable in his memory to Cancer Care Of Maine.
