Obituary for Reed Wayne Ireland

Howland - Reed Wayne Ireland, 14, passed away, April 27, 2020. Reed was born February 3, 2006, to Wayne Lee Ireland Jr. and Rebecca Lynne Ireland.

Reed was wise beyond his years. He was always asking questions, eager to learn more about people and the world around him. He was a very smart young man who excelled at Hichborn Middle School. As a student-athlete, Reed was always busy with soccer, basketball, and baseball. While he loved many sports, basketball was his favorite. He had a wealth of knowledge on the sport and almost every NBA player known to man. Reed not only loved sports, but he loved playing Xbox with his friends, cards with his family, and on his iPad in his spare time.

Reed also loved people. His relationships were very important to him. He never stopped talking about his buddies Colin Harding, Colin Dunn, Ella Brochu, and cousin Allie LeBlanc. He also had a close bond with his pets. His dog Diesel was very important to him, as well as dog, Louis, and new puppy, Bella.

Family parties were some of his favorite occasions. The LeBlanc and Reed Christmas parties, as well as Thanksgiving with the Mohollands and Currans, were most exciting for him. He had a special closeness with his grandparents, Gayle and Bob Moholland and sisters Sami, Lexi, and Emilee. His favorite person, though, was his mom, Becky.

In January of 2019, Reed was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma. He battled strongly and never gave up, going through treatments like chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. Reed spent his last few months at home with his mom and sisters, where he was most comfortable and happy.

Reed was loved by so many people and had a lot of love in his heart. As a truly genuine person, he always thought of others before himself. This was one of the many qualities that made people say, “That boy is so strong.” While many admired him, none were amazed by him more than those he leaves behind: aunt Marisa, uncle Andrew, and cousins Macy, Molly, Maggie, and Allie LeBlanc; aunt Mandi, uncle Jay, and cousins Jayden and Ethan Curran; uncle Rob, aunt Janet, and cousins Felicia and Bobby Moholland; “Grandma” Gayle and “Grampy” Bob Moholland; “Mum” Becky and sisters Sami, Lexi, and Emilee Ireland. The family takes comfort in knowing Reed is reunited with his dad, Wayne “Bub” Ireland Jr., and grandfather, Wayne Ireland Sr.

The family would like to thank The Lafayette Family Cancer Institute nurses and doctors, specifically Dr. Santa Cruz and Dr. Mazzoni, The Eastern Maine Medical Center nurses and doctors, and Janice, Reed’s hospice nurse. Special thanks to Reed’s “Big Brothers,” Reece Carter, Brady Harding, Kaiden Crowley, and Sam Brown, and “Honorary Big Sister,” Mikayla Roy.

A graveside service will be conducted at Edinburg Cemetery at a later date. Online condolences may be expressed at: www.lamsonfh.com
