Obituary for Raymond A. Street
Milinocket – Raymond Street, 79, of Millinocket passed away peacefully on September 10, 2020 following a long and brave battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Charlene in June, 2019.
Born in Brewer in 1941, Ray joined the Army after high school and was stationed in Sicily. After traveling throughout Europe, he returned home where he met and married the love of his life, Charlene Freeman in 1965. They moved to Millinocket in 1967 and he began work at Great Northern Paper Co. Following his retirement in 1998, he and Charlene owned and operated Mountain Village Coffee Shop from 1999-2011. It was there he became known as the "muffin man" for the delicious muffins he made!
Ray was a lifelong sports fan and always looked forward to the playoffs. It didn't matter what the sport was, he would choose his brackets, put his money down, and he'd usually win. While he never hit the lottery, his winnings allowed him to travel and spoil his family. Ray was also very generous with his time and spent many years counseling those struggling with alcohol addiction. He traveled throughout the state speaking at AA meetings and, in the process, made many close friends. He was an active member of the Nazarene Church of Millinocket and enjoyed many happy years of fellowship and friendship with other members of the congregation. However, his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, telling them tall tales of his youth growing up in Brewer. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Ray is survived by his sister, Katherine of Brewer, his brother, Edward of Indiana, his children Eric, Lynne and husband Keith, Roger and wife Dawn, Lisa and husband Jim, Denise and husband Mike as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be private due to pandemic guidelines. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, Millinocket.
