Lincoln –Ray Sutherland, 95, died Saturday, August 26, 2023, in Lincoln. He was born November 18, 1927, in Caroll, the son of Archie and Mary (Osgood) Sutherland.
Ray went to school in Carroll and was a graduate of Lee Academy, class of 1945. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, serving 1950-52; the last 14 months of his service time was in Korea, for which he received two Battle Stars. Ray married Marilyn Moores on June 13, 1953, and they were married 63 years until her passing in 2016. They lived most of their married life in Lincoln.
Ray worked his early life years for the town of Carroll and the State of Maine D.O.T. He worked also in the woods and did farm work. He worked for the Eastern Corporation in the Wood Department for 3 years and then worked for Standard Packaging driving a tractor trailer for 10 years. He then worked for Eastern Pulp and Paper as a millwright, retiring from there in 1990.
Ray is survived by two sons, James Sutherland and his wife Brenda, and Bruce Sutherland and his wife Ramona; six grandchildren, Jessie Sutherland, Joshua Sutherland, William Sutherland, Nicole Sutherland, Amy Sutherland, and Eric Nystrom; and two sisters in law, Avis Fleck and Joyce Sutherland. In addition to his parents and his wife, Ray was predeceased by seven brothers, Osgood, Clayton, Clair, J. Paul, Guy, Perley, and Barrie; two sisters, Beverly McDunnah and Charlene Stanley.
