Obituary for Rachel M. Cyr

Millinocket – Rachel M. Cyr, 85, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at a Portland hospital. She was born September 23, 1936 in Winn, the daughter of Harry and Margaret (Michaud) Alexander.

Rachel grew up in Winn, and was a graduate of Lee Academy, class of 1954. She loved working in her garden, sitting on her porch, and spending time with and keeping up with the activities of her grandchildren and great grandchildren – or her “babies” as she affectionately called them. She was a rabid Red Sox fan, and she spent many happy hours pursuing her sewing hobbies, through which she created many quilts, blankets, dolls, socks, mittens, and other items for her friends and family. Rachel was a communicant of Christ the Divine Mercy Parish, St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church for many years. She will be remembered as the sweetest mother and friend one could ask for.

She is survived by three children, Anethia Laplante and her husband David, Rod Cyr, and Chris Cyr and his fiancé Patty; seven grandchildren, Kyle and Trent Brown, Joseph Howe and fiancé Sam, Matthew Cyr, Meghan Perreault, Evan Deschene, and Robert Cyr; four great grandchildren, Alyssa Brown, Cortlyn and Skylar Cyr, and Ellianna Beaver; and too many special nieces and nephews to list. Rachel was predeceased by her beloved husband Robert Cyr, her brothers Wallace and Marcel Alexander, sister RosErma Wilson, and a very special sister in law, Joan Cyr.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. Gifts in memory of Rachel may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 1 Bowdoin Mill Island #300, Topsham, ME 04086. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, Millinocket. Messages of condolence may be expressed at www.lamsonfh.com.
