Lee – Quentin E. “Jack” Smart, II, 63, passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at his home. He was born December 1, 1958 in Lincoln, the son of Quentin E. and Diane L. (Downs) Smart.
Jack grew up in Lincoln, and was a graduate of Mattanawcook Academy, class of 1977. He started his career working in the woods with his father, which he did for many years, eventually starting his own business selling used heavy equipment for working in the woods. Jack was a “people person” and seemed to know everyone, and everyone knew him. His generosity and belief in others is responsible for the success of many loggers in the industry, many of whom are still active. Jack loved his dogs, children, grandchildren, going to Florida and visiting Disney. Spending time in the woods and on and around the Lake were favorite activities, especially sitting on the porch, enjoying the view and a good drink, hosting barbecues for friends and family where he could practice his love of cooking, and going for boat or ATV rides. The family camp on Chesuncook Lake was also his beloved spot to go and get away. Jack’s love of animals was especially highlighted by his longtime canine companion “Chip”, who went everywhere with him and was a fixture by his side to all who knew Jack. He will be remembered with happy memories by all those who loved him.
Jack is survived by three children, Jaime Smart and fiance Eric Horton, Melissa Hale and husband Nathan, and Caroline Carten and husband Owen; grandchildren, Mallory Smart, Chase Hale, and Elliot Carten; siblings Valerie Clark and husband Ted, Sarah Soule and husband Jay, and Andrew Smart and wife Holly; nieces and nephews T.C. Clark, Emily Sabo, Lily and Grace Fortin, and Delaney Smart; and many friends, too numerous to list. He will be especially missed by his significant other and caretaker, Jill Hamilton, who made Jack’s life happy and brought out all his best qualities. In addition to his parents, Jack was predeceased by a grandson Landon Bryant.
Friends are invited to visit with the family 1-2:30 PM Saturday, September 10, 2022 at the Lamson Funeral Home, Clay Chapel, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, with memorial services beginning at 2:30 PM. Interment will be at the Lincoln Cemetery. Messages of condolence may be expressed at Jack’s Book of Memories at www.lamsonfh.com.
