Obituary for Phillip D. Campbell
East Millinocket – Phillip D. Campbell, 87, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 3, 2021. He was born June 17, 1933 in Patten, the son of Eugene B. and Alice E. (Peavey) Campbell.
Phillip grew up in Patten, and attended school there, graduating from Patten Academy, class of 1953. He excelled in basketball during his high school years, and was the highest scorer in the history of Patten Academy with a total of 1446 points. In 1953, he was recognized as one of the Best Ball Players in the State of Maine. After high school, Phillip served a tour in the Army, and was a Korean War Veteran. He worked as a machinist at the Great Northern Paper Company in East Millinocket for 31 years, retiring in 1987. Phillip always enjoyed hunting, considering the seasons as a suggested guideline. He had a long standing heart and genuine concern for the homeless population. Phillip was a dedicated Christian and an active member of the Tri-Town Baptist Church in East Millinocket. He loved his cats, and spending time with his family.
Phillip is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nedra (Warman) Campbell; three children, Collier Lester and her husband Steve, Jon Campbell and his wife Stephanie, and Kelly York and her husband Noel; a daughter in law, Amanda Campbell and Chris Ballard; a brother, Don Campbell; a sister in law, Colleen Campbell; thirteen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Phillip was predeceased by a son, Jeff Campbell, four brothers, Gene, Hal, Earl, and Joe; a sister, Beatrice; and an infant grandson.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Community Health and Counseling for the kindnesses and care extended to Phillip and his family.
Graveside services, with military honors, will be held in the springtime at the East Millinocket Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home. Gifts in memory of Phillip may be sent to the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter, 263 Main Street, Bangor, ME 04401.
