Obituary for Philip H. "Phil" Hafford

Philip H. "Phil" Hafford
Much-loved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Philip H. Hafford (Phil), 57, of East Milliocket passed away peacefully in his home on September 19, 2018. He was born March 10, 1961 in Fort Kent, ME but was proud to have been raised in Allagash before his work moved him throughout the country.
Phil was predeceased by his father John W. Hafford and his mother Beatrice M. Plourde. He is survived by two daughters, Nekia A. Hafford (Joshua Stewart) of Carmel Maine and Kyrie D. (Venae) Hightower of Corpus Christi, Texas; his grandchildren, Hunter, Makayla, Caden, Vinnie, Zoey and Zaylee; three brothers Clarence "Mr. K" (Tanya) Hafford, Doug (Carmen) Hafford and John (Jess) Hafford: three sisters Betty (Steve) Hogue, Tammie (Tod) Robbins and Dana (Pete) Michaud; one uncle who he considered a brother, Cyrus Hafford and his best friend, Becky Hafford along with countless aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Phil was a naturally gifted mechanic. He started his career early in life on automobiles working steadily through heavy equipment and on to helicopters. Phil was a proud patriot who was honored to work as a government contractor with the US Army National Guard as a Structural Repair Mechanic on UH-60 Blackhawk Helicopters. His work gave him the opportunity to travel extensively, making lifelong friends and creating countless hilarious memories along the way. He was particularly proud of his mastery of the, "El-Spanish-O" language, which he picked up while working in Corpus Christi, Texas. Phil was a jack of all trades and mastered them all. He did nothing with less than a full heart and lived life wide open.
Phil was known by all as a true comedian who could make people laugh in the most difficult and awkward of situations, usually of his own making. His smile, his laugh and his wit will be forever missed by everyone who knew him. A gifted artist with a keen attention to detail, from pencil drawings to intricate wood carvings, he leaves behind a collection of work that will be cherished by his family for years to come. Phil was a chef, a collector, a distiller of fine spirits; he loved billiards, beer, women and guns… not necessarily in that order but without apology. Most of all, Phil loved his grandchildren and loved nothing more than spending a day teaching Hunter how to fish or play poker or shoot a gun or showing off his latest video of Zoey or Zaylee.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at Designlab, 135 Penobscot Ave., Millinocket; followed by a reception at the same address. Additionally, friends and family are invited to join us for an informal Celebration of Life at Walker Brook in Allagash on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at 3 p.m. where we will share stories, celebrate Phil’s sense of humor and honor his life in true Hafford fashion with his daughters.
In keeping with Phil’s wishes (and sense of humor) the family requests that in lieu of flowers, please send Bud Light. It is also the family’s request that you send donations to his daughter’s c/a Nekia Hafford 6 Dotties Way, Carmel, ME 04419.
