MILLINOCKET – Peter John King passed away Friday, July 5, 2019, at home surrounded by family after a strong battle against esophageal cancer. Pete was born in Millinocket on March 1, 1951, to Ellen (Woodhouse) and Kenneth F. King.

A graduate of the Stearns High School Class of 1969, he graduated from Maine Maritime Academy in 1976. His college career was interrupted when he was drafted during the Vietnam conflict and joined the Navy SeaBees. After basic training and service, he returned to MMA and was in the active reserves for several years. He worked 30 years as a merchant marine engineer for ExxonMobil/SeaRiver Maritime.
Pete married the love of his life, Marjorie Appleby, and they had 44 happy years together. His favorite thing was enjoying time with family and friends. Pete could frequently be found golfing at Hillcrest Golf Club, fishing at “The Hunk”, hunting, or watching his Red Sox or Patriots. He and Margie have enjoyed wintering in Florida since his retirement in 2006.
In addition to his wife, Peter is survived by his daughter Tracy and son-in-law Scott Daniell and his “little sweetie” grand-daughter Grace Marie of Orono; daughter Kelly Boganwright of Texas; daughter Lorie King of North Carolina; sister Sandra and her husband Mark Pelletier; brother David and his wife Suzanne King; brother Michael King; brother-in-law Frank and his wife Connie Appleby; brother-in-law Paul and his wife Kathy Appleby; several aunts, uncles and cousins, many nieces and nephews; and many dear friends who he appreciated very much. Pete will be remembered for his love and devotion to God, his family and his country.
Family and friends are invited to visiting hours at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack Street, Millinocket from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, July 8. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, at Christ the Divine Mercy Parish, St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 19 Colby Street, Millinocket, with the Rev. Bruce Siket, pastor, presider. Interment will be at Millinocket Cemetery.
