Obituary for Pauline E. Doane (Thompson)

Enfield – Pauline E. Doane passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 19, 2020 at her home. Born February 4, 1938 in Howland, she was the daughter of Ruth (Lancaster) and Frederick Thompson.

Polly graduated from Howland High School, class of 1956, where she met her future husband, Milton. They married on June 5, 1958 and began their life at their home on the Dodlin Road. Together they raised their three children and Polly was a devoted homemaker. There were always homemade snacks, home cooked meals, and plenty of iced tea in the fridge. Her famous fudge and apple squares were family favorites. She was a proud Grammie and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She never went anywhere without her camera and the multitude of photo albums of her children and grandchildren was evidence of this. Her and Milton enjoyed traveling in their motor home, especially following the NASCAR circuit to many racetracks and race shops, meeting many drivers along the way.

Polly is survived by her husband of 62 years, Milton; children, Wayne, Brian and his wife Lee, and Paula and her husband Marc; grandchildren, Brittany, Olivia, Aylee, Bryce, Reece, and Paige; siblings Raymond Thompson and Dorothy Williams; and special sisters in law Patricia Thompson, Edna Doane, Betty Doane, and Joyce Sutherland. She was Aunt Polly to many special nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by siblings Alice Rinas, Richard Thompson, Sr., and Dallas Parker, a special aunt, Theo Moran, and her son in law, Bruce Carter.

The family would like to thank the staff at Beacon Hospice for the exceptional care that enabled us to keep Polly in her home.

Graveside services will be held 11 AM. Saturday, July 25 at the West Enfield Cemetery. Because of her love of children and reading, gifts in memory of Polly may be sent to the Enfield Station School Library, 561 Hammett Road, West Enfield, ME 04493. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, Clay Chapel, Lincoln.
