Obituary for Nancy L. Schneider

Millinocket - Nancy L. Schneider, a lifelong resident of Millinocket, Maine, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family members on Saturday, March 12, 2022. She was 85 years.
Nancy Brue’re Lounsbury was born in New York, NY on October 11th, 1936 to parents Richard C. and Alice B. Lounsbury. She grew up in Stamford, CT where she shared many fond adventures of riding her ponies with her sister Susan and tending to the farm animals with her brother Peter. Her passion for horseback riding grew upon the family’s move to Mount Ebo Dairy Farm in 1950. Nancy competed in many equestrian horse jumping events in her teenage years with the most memorable being a second-place finish in Madison Square Garden.
On September 20th, 1957, she married Robert J. Schneider Jr. of Brewster, NY. In 1966, Robert and Nancy moved to Millinocket, Maine in support of Robert’s job with Great Northern Paper Company. Robert worked at Great Northern Paper Company until his untimely death on January 10th, 1992. During this time, Robert and Nancy raised 3 children: Donald C. Schneider, James E. Schneider and John L. Schneider.
Nancy was a devoted and encouraging mother indulging her children’s interests in sports, music and the arts. She was an avid motorcyclist (loved her Triumph’s and Harley’s), a dedicated runner up until her mid 60’s. She also earned her degrees as a certified nurse’s aide and phlebotomist. She loved her beloved dogs rescuing a myriad of animals from the local animal shelters. She was also a spiritual woman involved in many church activities from a lector, a eucharistic minister as well as a lay reader. Her proudest moment came in 2013 when she converted to Catholicism as a member of St. Martin of Tours parish in Millinocket, Maine.
Nancy is pre-deceased by her brother Peter Lounsbury of Roosevelt, UT.
Nancy is survived by her sister Susan Haytcher of Ashtabula, OH, her sister-in-law Heidi Lounsbury of Roosevelt, UT, her sons Donald C. Schneider and wife Debbie of China, Maine, James E. Schneider and wife Jane of Millinocket, Maine and John L. Schneider and wife Brenda of East Waterboro, Maine. She has 5 grandchildren: Scott D’Errico of Ashland, Oregon, Michael Speed of Millinocket, Maine, Jessica Squillante and husband Nick of Levant, Maine, Kyle J. Schneider of East Waterboro, Maine and Kayla S. Morrison and husband Ben of Limerick, Maine. She also has 3 great-grandchildren, Noah J. Schneider, Alcee Squillante and Cason Squillante.

A mass of Christian Burial for Nancy L. Schneider will be held at Christ the Divine Mercy Parish, St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 19 Colby Street, Millinocket on Saturday, March 26th, 2022. Family visitation will start at 10:00am with the funeral mass starting at 11:00 am. Gifts in memory of Nancy may be sent to the Katahdin Area Support Group,P.O Box 374, Millinocket, ME 04462, Spring interment will be at the Millinocket Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, Millinocket. Services will be livestreamed and may be viewed, and messages of condolence expressed, at Nancy’s Book of Memories at www.lamsonfh.com.
