Obituary for Myron P. Doane

Enfield - Myron P. Doane, 80, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at Cummings Health Care Facility in Howland. Born on December 13, 1939, he lived his entire life on the family homestead on the Dodlin Road in Enfield. He earned degrees in education from the Aroostook State Teacher’s College and the University of New Hampshire. He spent his career in education as a teacher and principal at Penobscot Valley High School for 22 years and truly loved impacting student’s lives in a positive way. He had a second career for 17 years managing the Enfield office of Prentiss and Carlisle utilizing his strengths in organization and leadership while following his lifelong passion of the outdoors. In addition, he also served as a Selectman and Interim Manager for the Town of Enfield. His passion in outdoor activities carried over in his personal life with camping, fishing, hunting, skiing, tennis, and especially farming. He took exceptional pride in the family’s farmland, to include the gardens, orchard, hayfield, and woodlots. He enjoyed the simple things in life including spending individual time with his family and helping them with projects, countless hours in the garden, doing things around the house and reading his Uncle Henry’s for bargains. Myron will be especially remembered for his warmth, kindness, and consideration of others.
Myron is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Edna (Graham) Doane, as well as four sons and their spouses - John Doane and Marianne, David Doane, Paul Doane and Jennifer, and Peter Doane and Jodi; four grandsons Gregory, Carlton, Nathan, and Ryan; three granddaughters, Megan, Kara, and Taylor; two brothers Milton Doane and wife Polly, and Gerald Doane and wife Joanne; sister Joyce Sutherland; and sister-in-law Betty Doane; special friends Craig and Renee Austin; and many special nieces, nephews, step grandchildren, and friends. He was pre-deceased by his parents Norman and Marion Doane, parent in-laws Bill and Aura Graham, brother Stuart Doane, brother-in-law Barrie Sutherland, special nephew Dirk Sutherland, and close cousin Lawrence Milton. There will be a private family gathering in memory of Myron and a celebration of life to follow at a later date. The family would like to give a special thanks to the unbelievable care, kindness and love provided by Cummings Health Care Facility in Howland, to his siblings Joyce and Milton and many other special family and friends who made Myron’s final years and days special ones.
