Obituary for Morris R. Day Sr.

Medway – Morris R. Day, Sr., 81, died Monday, April 15, 2019 at his home. He was born July 22, 1937 in Medway, the son of Llewellyn H. and Daisy M. (White) Day.

Morris worked for the Great Northern Paper Company for 39 years in the wood yard. He always referred to his machinery as his “Tonka Toys”. Friends referred to him as “Moe”. He loved new gadgets and toys, and always had to have the latest and greatest of whatever caught his attention. Above all else, though, he loved spending time with his family, who will miss him dearly.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy (Burleigh) Day; a daughter, Sharon Machia; two brothers, Everett and Millard Day; two sisters, Hazel Beach and Gertrude McReavy and her husband Paul; a sister in law, Bernice Nickerson; seven grandchildren, Jennifer McLaughlin, John Mills, Jr. Christina Rineholt, Nicholas Gagnon, Angelia Olds, Laura Day, and Kendal Moore; eighteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Morris was predeceased by a son, Morris Day, Jr., two sisters, Charlene Day, and Sally Jacobs, a brother Walter Day, two bothers in law, Ershel Beach and Tommy Jacobs, and two sisters in law, Theresa (Michaud) Day and Laurel (Ireland) Day.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Morris’ private duty caregivers, as well as the caregivers of Community Health and Counseling Hospice, for the loving care given to Morris and to the family.

Funeral services will be private. Gifts in memory of Morris may be sent to the Animal Orphanage, 71 Airport Road, Old town, ME 04469. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, Millinocket.
