Obituary for Michael Murchison

Lincoln- Michael R. Murchison, 60, died unexpectedly July 14, 2020 in Lincoln. He was born 60 years earlier in Lincoln also on July 14, 1960, the son of Henry and Ruth Murchison.
Michael graduated from Mattanawcook Academy, class of 1978. Following graduation, Michael served in the US Army as a Combat Engineer where he was stationed in Germany. Upon his discharge, he attended the University of Maine Orono, where he earned his undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering and his master’s degree in Structural Engineering, as well as being a PhD candidate in the same field. He worked for Foresight Engineering in Lincoln, and in that capacity was involved in the development and completion of many projects both in Lincoln and other parts of the state of Maine.
Michael was a lifelong supporter of youth sports to especially include his love for Lincoln Little League Baseball. Over the years he was a fixture at all local athletic events where his nieces and nephews participated. Every summer he could be found kayaking at his family’s remote camp at Unknown Lake in Hancock County, engaging in activities with extended family to include hiking MT Katahdin with his nephews, and passionately discussing the virtues of small government and national politics with anyone who would listen.
Michael is survived by his sister Patricia Abbott and her husband Steven of Stevens Point, Wisconsin; his sister Kathleen Barron and her husband John of Bangor, Maine; his sister Deborah Ortiz and her husband Robert of Lake Bluff, Illinois; his brother Jeffrey Murchison and his wife Julie of Chester, Maine; and his brother Henry Murchison of Bangor, Maine; and 14 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Rockwell Murchison of Bangor.
