Obituary for Maryellen Shaw (Craig)

Millinocket - Maryellen Shaw, 86, of Millinocket passed on to the Lord Thursday, August 15 at her home surrounded by loved ones. She was born on June 30, 1933 in Millinocket, the daughter of C. Shirley Craig and Mildred Craig.

She attended local schools and graduated from Stearns High School in 1951. She married the love of her life, Richard Shaw in 1951 and enjoyed over 62 years of a happy marriage. Maryellen was deeply religious and was an accomplished piano and organ player. She directed the choir at the Baptist and Nazarene churches over the years.

Family was the centerpiece of her life and was the glue that held our family together. The family camp on South Twin Lake was her and Richard’s favorite place and they spent from early spring until late autumn there. Several times over the years she invited the congregation to camp and many were baptized in the lake in front of camp.

She was well known for her huge hugs, strong handshake, brown yeast rolls, her singing, tenderoni salad, lemon squares, beautiful crocheting, spectacular Fourth of July celebrations at camp which also served as a birthday celebration for her mother. She enjoyed traveling and loved her Hawaii and Alaska trips. She loved to play the organ and listen to the loons. Mom was a member of the Millinocket Philharmonic Club.

Maryellen was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her sons Dale and Bruce and her brother Wallace Craig. She is survived by her son David and his wife Carrie of Saco, Maine and South Twin Lake; along with her sister and best friend Shirley Cyr and husband Ken of Millinocket and sister Margaret Craig of Laguna Hills, California.

She had special place in her heart for her nieces Lisa Jean Bennett and Tina Marie Treuth ; a nephew Tom Foote and wife Cassie. Mom also had an “adopted” grandson Randy “Buddy” Bourgoin and many nieces and nephews.

Our family would like to thank her wonderful neighbors for all their help especially after dad’s death, she deeply loved all of you. A special thanks to the caregivers who made mom’s final days comfortable and safe . . . . Lisa, Donna, Marsha, Natalie, Phyllis, Marion, Angel, Jen and Glenda. Many thanks to the good people of Hospice, especially Nancy.

Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 P.M. Thursday, August 22 at the Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack Street, Millinocket. Funeral services will be held 1 P.M. Friday, August 23 at the Faith Baptist Church, 244 Massachusetts Avenue, Millinocket with the Rev. Ian Shearer, pastor, officiating. Interment will be at the Millinocket Cemetery.

Mom supported many charities throughout the years and she firmly believed in helping others in need. With that in mind, please donate to a charity of your choice.
