Obituary for MaryEllen Haugen (Whalen)

Millinocket – MaryEllen Haugen, 55, died late Thursday night, July 9, 2020 at her home, with her husand, John, by her side. She was born February 13, 1965 in Millinocket, the daughter of Robert and Carol (Dickinson) Whalen.
MaryEllen grew up in Millinocket, and was a graduate of Stearns High School, class of 1984. She enjoyed scrapbooking and researching family history, and was a volunteer at the Millinocket Historical Society, as well as other area causes. MaryEllen was a regular Pitch player, and liked playing Bingo and going to the casino. She was happy go lucky, and kept everybody on their toes with her quick wit and easy smile. MaryEllen could have a strong personality, but she genuinely cared for people, and that came through in her dealings. She had a deep appreciation for American History, and loved travelling, especially when it involved learning about that subject. Her travels with her husband took her to the Roosevelt, Reagan, and Nixon libraries, among several other places. A memorable and loyal person, MaryEllen will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband of 30 years, John D. Haugen; siblings, Robert Whalen and Brenda Cyr of Millinocket, and Nancy Marino and her husband Michael of Pawcatucket, Connecticut; her mother in law, Virginia Haugen of Susquehanna, Pennsylvania; brothers in law, Carl and Craig Haugen; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. MaryEllen will be missed by several close friends whom she was blessed to have in her life – too numerous to list, you all know who they are. She was predeceased by her parents.
Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 P.M. Monday, July 13 at the Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack Street, Millinocket. Graveside services will be held 2 P.M. Tuesday, July 14 at the Millinocket Cemetery with the Rev. Bruce Siket officiating. Gifts in memory of MaryEllen may be sent to the Restoring Hope Transplant House, 7457 Terrace Avenue, Middletown, WI 53562.
