Obituary for Mary V. Lee
MATTAWAMKEAG- Mary V. (Mailman) Lee, 80, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, November 29, 2019 after a long courageous battle with dementia. Mary was born on August 12, 1939, the daughter of Archie and Zella Mailman of Danforth. Mary grew up in Danforth one of 9 children. On November 8, 1957 Mary married the love of her life, Norman Eli Lee. Together they had three children, Carrie, Dale Ann, and Kevin.
While raising her family, Mary worked for Foster’s Manufacturing as a saw filer for nearly 38 years. Later in life, Mary decided to go to cosmetology school and worked as a hairdresser with her friend Gloria Coons at Gloria’s Beauty Shop in Lincoln and Transitions Hair and Tanning. Mary was a very hard worker and proud of her work but nothing made her more proud than the family that she raised. She was happiest in those moments when her family would gather under one roof and she could cook them a delicious meal. Mary will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. Her legacy will live on through all of those that she leaves behind.
Mary was predeceased by her parents; one daughter, Carrie; her brothers, Newton, Delanore (Pop), Curtis (Soc), Roger, Haratio (Daig), and Kenneth; sisters Julia and Juanita (Neat); and most recently by her loving husband of nearly 60 years, Norman Eli Lee. Mary is survived by her Daughter and son-in-law, Dale Ann Lee and Jeff Lane of Glenburn; Son and companion, Kevin Lee and Celina Curtis of Lincoln; grandchildren, Travis Lee and wife, Kimberly Lee of Glenburn, MacKenzie Lee, Hunter Lee, Alexandria Curtis; great-grandchildren, Jenna Jameson and Eli Lee. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws including a very special sister-in-law Lola Spinney. Mary is also survived by her best friend of many years Bessie Kelsey. Together the two of them were often referred to as “Laverne and Shirley”.
Friends and family may visit Sunday, December 8, 2019 from 12-2pm Followed by a service and celebration of Mary’s life at Lamson Funeral Home, Lee Road, Lincoln.
Mary will be laid to rest with her daughter, Carrie and her husband, Eli with a family burial at a later date.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude to the staff and residents at the Maine Veterans Home B Unit in Bangor for the love and support they provided to both Mary and her family members throughout the last year.
