EAST MILLINOCKET Mary Ellen King, 81, wife of the late Freddie King, passed away on Monday, May 17, 2021. Mary Ellen King was born on December 10, 1939 to Isabelle James Springer and Arnold Casier Springer.
Mary Ellen lost her long-time, courageous battle with dementia and passed peacefully in her home in East Millinocket surrounded by her adoring family, friends, and amazing care takers. She is now with her Lord and Savior.
Mary Ellen grew up Sherman and was the oldest of four girls. During her high school years, she worked as a telephone operator. She graduated from Sherman High School with classmates that became lifelong friends. Following high school, Mary Ellen met and married the love of her life, Freddie, and they raised three children together. When the children were older, she went to work as a jewelry counter manager in two department stores, and later served as Church Secretary at Calvary Temple in East Millinocket for many years. Mary Ellen was humble and compassionate and a friend to all. Mary Ellen was a devout Christian and ministered to those in nursing homes with a beautiful singing voice, playing her guitar and omnichord. She lived a fulfilling life with family and friends enjoying snowmobiling, spending time at the family camp, baking, and quilting.
Mary Ellen was predeceased by her husband Freddie King and only son Freddie A King. She is survived by her two loving daughters Brenda M King and partner Mike Sucy of Old Town and Nancy L Small and her husband Shannon Small of East Millinocket, seven grandchildren Casey Fitzgerald, Billie-Jo Arellano and her husband Mario, Jessica Birmingham and her husband Allen, Jodi Jandreau and her husband Bobby, Nekia Small and her husband Aaron, Freddie King and his fiancé Mandy Whirty, and Kristen Quill and her partner Mathew Cavanaugh, ten great-grandchildren Alyssa, Anderson, Anthony, Amelia, Bentley, Anthony, Lucas, Jaxon, Nick, and Trevor. Mary Ellen is also survived by her three sisters Anne Tuller, Jane Willette, and Janice Springer Kennedy and several nieces and nephews.
Combined funeral services for Mary Ellen and her husband Freddie will be held at the Calvary Temple Church in East Millinocket on May 21, 2021 at 1:00 pm followed by a grave side service at East Millinocket Cemetery, where military honors will be presented for Freddie. A luncheon at the church will follow.
