Obituary for Mary E. Dastous

Lincoln – Mary Elizabeth Stevens Dastous, 93, died Wednesday, February 27, 2019 in Lincoln. She was born December 12, 1925 in Milford, the daughter of Vaughn H. and Mary E. (Osgood) Fitzherbert.

Mary was a Girl Scout in Bucksport, and a Girl Guide in Milford. She graduated from Corner Brook High School in Milford, class of 1943. She belonged to the Cadet Nurse Corps, and received her nursing training at Champlain Valley Hospital in Plattsburg, New York, and earned her R.N. degree in Albany, New York in 1948. Mary was also a graduate of the New England Conservatory where she played the piano. She worked many years as a Registered Nurse at the Workman Hospital and also at Penobscot Valley Hospital. Mary loved square dancing, basket making, canning, and quilting. She was a member of the Silver Spoons Club, and loved playing Bingo. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Lincoln, where she was a Sunday School Teacher, and a member of the Pilgrim’s Daughters and the Pilgrim Fellowship, but Mary’s greatest joy was her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mary is survived by her husband, Paul Dastous; three children, Deborah McCafferty and Brent, Christopher Stevens, and Patricia Pender and Tom; six grandchildren, Andrea McCafferty of Long Island, New York, Angela Sweenhart of Farmington, David McCafferty and Marie of Windham, New Hampshire, Jason Murchison and Rachel of Presque Isle, Ryan Stevens of Lincoln, and Tim Murchison of Seabrook, NH; five great grandchildren, Connor, Kade, Sienna, Kathryn, and Brayden; ; a sister, Carolyn Levensailor of Mobile, Alabama; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, David Stevens.

Graveside services will be held in the springtime at the Lincoln Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, Clay Chapel.
