Obituary for Marie A. Mosca (Willette)

MILLINOCKET - Marie A. Mosca died peacefully at home Tuesday, December 10th. Born in 1935 in East Millinocket, she was the daughter of Amelia and Frank Willette.

Marie was terribly fond of classic movies, especially a good love story. Her own love story started in 1951, when she met Robert Mosca. Marrying in 1954, they built their home in Millinocket and raised three children. They lovingly spoiled six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, and welcomed with delight two great-grandchildren in recent years.

An education at Schenck High School and Husson College led Marie and her sharp mind towards an industrious path in clerical work. She retired in 1985 after a career that included time with Great Northern Paper, the law office of Noel Evans, and the Town Clerk’s office in Millinocket.

Marie’s family was the great joy of her life. But perhaps her most remarkable gift was the ability to carry that joy with her as she moved through the world. Her humor and irreverence charmed people wherever she went. Her circle of close friends extended from Maine to Daytona Beach, where she and Bob enjoyed several decades of warm winters.

A prolific cook, Marie often gathered her family at camp on South Twin for meals of her marvelous red sauce. It was unheard of to leave her table without an indulgently full belly. You’d still have pie, of course.

It was entirely normal for Marie to break into song with the slightest provocation. Her uptempo renditions of “Happy Birthday” were especially memorable. With a little nudging, she and Bob would aptly demonstrate their jitterbug skills. She lived with easy access to delight, joy, and humor. This is the spirit in which she will be remembered.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Robert; her son Robert and wife Diane, granddaughter Gina Mosca and husband Jason Langseth, grandson Gabriel Mosca and wife Barbara, and great-grandchildren Charles and Violet Mosca; her daughter Susan Lathan and husband Kevin, grandson Shawn Lathan, and granddaughter Jenny Lathan; her daughter Diane Richard and husband Tim, granddaughter Elizabeth Falvey and husband Tom, and granddaughter Cara Fraser and fiance Benjamin Gerry; Diane and Tim’s son Shane Richard and his son Evan, their daughter Morgan Picard and her husband Dana, with their children Isabelle and Gabriel. She is also survived by her brother Frank Willette and wife Esther, her brother-in-law Alfred Mosca and wife Pam, and sister-in-law Deanna Shepperd and husband Roger. She was predeceased by an infant grandson, Brian Lathan, her sister-in-law Cora (Kokie) Willette, her sister-in-law Serene Mosca, and her sister-in-law Annie Curley and husband John.

A mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, December 13th, 11 am, at St. Martin of Tours in Millinocket, with burial to follow in the spring. Those wishing to donate in Marie’s memory might consider St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Katahdin Area Support Group as causes near to her heart. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, Millinocket.
