Obituary for Marianne McLaughlin

Medway – Marianne McLaughlin, 79, passed away Thursday, January 13, 2022 at a Millinocket hospital. She was born February 6, 1942 in East Millinocket, the daughter of Leo and Laura (Dempsey) Pelkey.
Marianne grew up in East Millinocket, and was a graduate of Schenck High School, class of 1960. On February 6, 1961 she married Wendell, and they shared 48 years together until his death in 2009. Marianne was a dedicated rural mail carrier of the U.S. Postal Service for over 55 years - not just delivering mail but caring for those on her route, often checking on their wellbeing. So dedicated was she, that she delivered the mail before going to the hospital for what would be her final illness. Marianne’s family was first in her life, and she will be remembered for hosting gatherings, especially Christmas Eve, and playing cards with her sisters on Thursdays. Known as “Mam” to her grandchildren, it was a nickname that transcended family and was how she was best known to many. Meals at her house meant your plate was never empty, and her Rigatoni and sauce was a family favorite. Sundays were spent faithfully attending services at Calvary Temple Assembly of God in East Millinocket, followed by a shopping trip to Bangor, especially Kohl’s where she enjoyed her discounts and Kohl’s Cash. Marianne and Wendell loved taking family trips to Old Orchard Beach every summer which will now be treasured memories. Marianne’s absence will be felt by all whose lives she touched, and she will be lovingly missed and fondly remembered.
She is survived by three children, Blaine McLaughlin and his wife Patty, Dale McLaughlin and his wife Christine, and Chad McLaughlin and his wife Ann; seven grandchildren, Nikki Cram, Kasey Page and husband Mike, Casey Savage and her husband Josh, Wendell “Mac” McLaughlin and Hannah Taft, Dylan McLaughlin, Cameron McLaughlin, and Nathan McLaughlin; nine great grandchildren, Marissa, Colbie, Kyla, Jaxson, Addison, Judson, Lillian, Nicholas, and Hazel; seven siblings, Robert Pelkey and his wife Carol, Priscilla Lyons, Roger Pelkey and his wife Susan, Janice Currie, Kathy Hardy, Sharon Smythe and her husband Terry, and Ellen McLaughlin and her husband Jay; two special sisters in law, Ginny Dempsey and Brenda Pelkey; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her husband and parents, Marianne was predeceased by four brothers Oakley Dempsey, Eugene Pelkey, Ronald Pelkey, Sr., and Rene Pelkey.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday June 7, 2022 at Grindstone Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, Millinocket. Messages of condolence may be expressed at www.lamsonfh.com.
