Laura was raised in Silver Ridge, Maine where she learned the value of hard work picking potatoes every fall alongside her beloved sisters. Silver Ridge remained her special place. It was there that her strong sense of faith and family were formed. She loved to take rides “up home” always insisting on pulling over at Gulliver Brook where all the Atkinson kids learned to swim. She graduated from Sherman High School in 1952.
In 1955, Laura married Elmer (Bo) Haynes at the First Congregational Church in Lincoln, Maine. After initially renting homes in the Lincoln area, they settled into the home they built on William Street and raised their family. Summers were spent at the Big Narrows teaching their children to swim, water ski, fish and appreciate nature. In retirement, Laura and Bo moved to the lake full time until Bo passed away in 1997.
Laura discovered a love of golf in her later years, and it was on the golf course that Laura met Richard Jordan. They married in 2005 and spent winters in Zephyrhills, Florida golfing and enjoying retirement until Richard’s death in 2015.
Funeral services will be held in the summer of 2023. For those wishing to remember Laura, donations can be sent to the First Congregational Church of Lincoln PO Box 131 Lincoln, ME 04457. Messages of condolence may be expressed at Laura's Book of Memories at www.lamsonfh.com.
