Joyce A. Murchie, 79, passed away July 17, 2019. She was born July 30, 1939 in Houlton, Maine the daughter of Mable (King) and Wilbur Briggs.
A loving mother and grandmother, a devoted wife of 61 years, and a loyal friend, Joyce was known for her warm, fun loving and adventurous spirit. She enjoyed exploring the outdoors, spending time with her family, and shenanigans with her “Special Friends”. Joyce spent nearly a decade working and traveling throughout Europe with her husband. Some of her favorite places included Paris, London, and Turkey.
A treasured family memory will always be the annual trip to The Samoset with her granddaughters which always included stops at the flea markets and Reny’s, board games, junk food, swimming, croquet, and breakwater walks.
Joyce worked for 22 years as the administrative assistant at the Ella P. Burr Elementary School in Lincoln, Maine. She was named the 2019 Secretary of The Year by the MPA for her years of devoted service to the students and community.
She is survived by her husband, Harley Murchie; her daughter, Ann Thornton and husband, Tim; a sister, Gayle Tewksbury and husband, Clarke; two granddaughters, Rebecca Levesque and husband, Matt, and Lindsay Dolloff and husband, Jon; a great-grandson Nolan Dolloff; and canine companion, Belle.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, July 21, 2019 at the South Chester Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Lamson Funeral Home, Lincoln.
