Obituary

Joyce A. Murchie, 79, passed away July 17, 2019. She was born July 30, 1939 in Houlton, Maine the daughter of Mable (King) and Wilbur Briggs.

A loving mother and grandmother, a devoted wife of 61 years, and a loyal friend, Joyce was known for her warm, fun loving and adventurous spirit. She enjoyed exploring the outdoors, spending time with her family, and shenanigans with her “Special Friends”. Joyce spent nearly a decade working and traveling throughout Europe with her husband. Some of her favorite places included Paris, London, and Turkey.

A treasured family memory will always be the annual trip to The Samoset with her granddaughters which always included stops at the flea markets and Reny’s, board games, junk food, swimming, croquet, and breakwater walks.

Joyce worked for 22 years as the administrative assistant at the Ella P. Burr Elementary School in Lincoln, Maine. She was named the 2019 Secretary of The Year by the MPA for her years of devoted service to the students and community.

She is survived by her husband, Harley Murchie; her daughter, Ann Thornton and husband, Tim; a sister, Gayle Tewksbury and husband, Clarke; two granddaughters, Rebecca Levesque and husband, Matt, and Lindsay Dolloff and husband, Jon; a great-grandson Nolan Dolloff; and canine companion, Belle.

Harley, I was so sad to read of Joyce’s passing. Joyce always made me feel welcomed in your home for the many NAEP meetings and more recently when my husband and I came up for a visit. You are in my thoughts and prayers during this sad time. Take care.

You were the BEST School Secretary ever!! My heart was broken when I heard the news. You were the first one at school to make me feel comfortable there. You were the heartbeat of the school, you knew that place more than anyone did. You knew every child and knew every bus they belonged on and if they were not on the right bus, you were making phone calls. You made the children safe, and loved them like a Grandmother loves her Grandchildren. You also were good to all of us, and when we had questions about anything, you were the first one we would ask. You were the head Pirate of that ship and we were all your mates. I know you are on Heavens intercom making announcements for where the other Angels need to fly to help people. You my lady were the BEST!! You will be sadly missed by all that loved and knew you. My prayers to the family, friends and all of the children that had the pleasure of being graciously touched by such a wonderful soul. Fly High Joyce, I always knew you were an Earth Angel and now you are Heavens Angel now.

Im so sorry Harley, Ann and family for your loss. I had known Joyce since I was born. Having been her neighbor growing up and then later moving back to my childhood home. My children got to know the Murchie family as I had when I was a small child. We all have such fond memories of Joyce either at her home or at Ella P Burr school. We consider ourselves very lucky to have known this special lady with such a huge and loving heart. God Rest in Peace Joyce! Love, Shannon,Curtis, Sydney & Connor Robertson
