Obituary for Joseph Leonard Daigle Jr.

Joseph Leonard Daigle Jr.
Medway – Leonard Daigle, 81, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 in Medway. He was born May 1, 1937 in Daigle, the son of Leonard and Kathleen (Labbe) Daigle, Sr.
Leonard grew up in northern Maine, having moved with his family to several of the small towns encompassing the “Crown of Maine.” He began working at Katahdin Motors in Millinocket before moving to Medway with his wife, Jean, in the late 1950’s. Shortly after that, he began working at the Great Northern Paper Company in Millinocket. Leonard stayed employed at the mill for over 30 years, retiring in the late 1990’s as a High Yield Operator. He built the house in which he lived from the ground up, including all the wiring and plumbing, and he continued living in that house until the time of his death. Leonard had a good sense of humor, and was always even tempered. When his boys would break something, he didn’t get upset, just said “We need to fix that”, and then went about getting the repairs completed. He was mechanically inclined, and was very talented at working with his hands. He built many canoes, and was able to teach his sons those same skills. Leonard loved to spend time outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and camping. One of his highlights during the week was meeting his brothers at McDonald’s in Millinocket for coffee, something they did at least twice a week. Leonard was much loved by his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, and extended family and friends, and he will be missed greatly by those whose lives he touched.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jean C. (Pelkey) Daigle of Medway; four sons, Larry Leonard Daigle and his wife Loretta of Stillwater, Allen Paul Daigle of Medway, Mark Anthony Daigle, Sr. and his wife Susan of East Millinocket, and Jeffrey Dean Daigle and his wife Tina of Medway; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three brothers, Jerry Daigle and his wife Shirley, and Nelson Daigle, all of Millinocket, and Gene Daigle and his wife Rosemary of Indiana; two sisters in law, Anita Daigle, and Marilyn Daigle, both of Connecticut; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to his parents, Leonard was predeceased by two brothers, Ernie and Sherman Daigle.
Funeral services will be private. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home.
