Obituary

Lincoln – John I. Flynt, Jr., 78, went home to go fishing early in the morning of Wednesday, January 13, 2021. He was born December 1, 1942 in Wantaugh, New York, the son of John I. and Louise D. (Herald) Flynt.

John loved being outside, whether it was fishing, camping, or spending time with his family. He loved enjoying a good bonfire in the backyard, regardless of the weather conditions, and it was not uncommon for him to get too close and find his down jacket to be smoldering from an errant spark landing in an inopportune spot! He will be lovingly missed and fondly remembered by those who knew him.

John is survived by his wife of 38 years, Barbara-Jean (Hammond) Flynt; two children, Jennifer Grenier and Dan Peterson, and Jacquelyne Flynt and Matt Moriarty; five grandchildren, Natalie, Jacob, Lindsey, Evan, and James; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and a twin brother, Robert.

At John’s request, there will be no services . Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, Clay Chapel, Lincoln.

Johnwas such an amazing father, husband, "papa", and friend to anybody who truly knew him. I will always cherish the time that I was fortunate enough to be blessed with with this great man.
I wanted to share a very fond memory I jave of John that makes me smile every time I think about him. And it has to do with his love for his "backyard bonfires!"
I remember being there for dinner one day, but before we had dinner John decided we were going to burn the brush pile over on the side of the house. Well the wind decided to pick up a little bit while the brush pile was lit, and we definately had our work cut out for us in keeping this brush pile under control and not burning up the tree line between his yard and the neighbors! We managed to keep it under control and soon enough dinner was done so we went inside to eat. We all made our plates and sat down to eat, and as John was talking to us about something, we all started laughing. Unbeknownst to him, when the fire was just a "little" out of control, and he was working on keeping it contained, the flames ended up singeing his eyebrows! It had everyone in tears because it was so funny!!
I love you John. Go catch the big one in the lake up there my friend! I will never forget you.
Your friend,
Mike
