Obituary for Joan L. Michaud

East Millinocket – Joan L. (McLaughlin) Michaud, 75, beloved wife of David R. Michaud, passed away March 20, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born January 1, 1945 in Medway, the daughter of Willard and Priscilla (Dempsey) McLaughlin.

Joan grew up in Medway and was the salutatorian of Schenck High School’s class of 1963. She continued her education at Husson University before returning to Medway to marry her true love, David. Joan worked at East Mill Federal Credit Union as an accountant for over 27 years. Joan was a communicant of Christ the Divine Mercy Parish, St. Peter’s Catholic Church in East Millinocket.

Joan met David as a freshman at Schenck High School, and they began a love that lasted over 60 years, marrying July 24, 1965. Together they raised three daughters. Family meant everything to Joan. She looked forward to her family gatherings and cooking her grandchildren’s favorite foods. Joan also enjoyed her time at camp. She and David spent as much time as possible fishing, biking, skiing and enjoying the outdoors. Her favorite times were spent with family at camp and on the river. She loved having her children and grandchildren around the table playing cards and board games. Her children and grandchildren knew that she was their biggest supporter, whether she was attending their games or concerts, or just talking and spending time together.

Joan is survived by her husband, David; daughters: Kelley and husband Ross Waite, Kerry and husband Anthony Davis, Jennifer and husband Glenn Seitz; grandchildren: Karlie Michaud, Emma and Jakob Davis, Nate, Cole and Will Seitz. She is also survived by her sisters, Gail (John) Libby, Debra (Rick) Levasseur; brothers, George McLaughlin, Ben McLaughlin and Rick (Colleen) McLaughlin; brother-in-law Elliott (Cecile) Michaud and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves many friends, including close friends, David and Pam Pierce. She was predeceased by her parents, and her sister Betty Michaud. She also leaves behind her grand-puppies Max, Ruby and Savanah.

A funeral mass at Christ the Divine Mercy Parish, St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 58 Cedar Street, East Millinocket, will be celebrated at a later date with Rev. Bruce Siket, pastor, presider. Spring interment will be at the Grindstone Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, East Millinocket. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Joan can be made to the Katahdin Area Support Group.
