Obituary for Jean Simpson (Melvin)

Jean Melvin Simpson, died on April 8 in Daleville, Virginia. Born in 1928, Jean was raised in Millinocket, Maine by her grandparents, Frank and Florence Melvin.
Jean was a graduate of Stearns High School and worked as a secretary and homemaker. Along with her husband, Bill, she lived in Maine, Georgia, Mississippi, and after retirement, Florida, and Virginia.
She was a Past Matron of Onawa chapter of the Eastern Star, and a long-time member of Millinocket Baptist Church and Journey Church in Roanoke, Virginia. She served in several ministries, including her church's food pantry, and went on multiple mission trips to Nicaragua and Honduras. Her hobbies included cooking, reading, sewing, and traveling.
Jean was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, William (Bill) Simpson and survived by two daughters and their husbands, Florrie and David Randall of Bangor, Maine and Sara and Richard Brown, of Troutville, Virginia; Four grandchildren, Sara Saxton and husband, Dan, of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Abby Randall, of Grand Rapids Michigan; Rachel Brown and Ryan Brown, of Troutville, Virginia; and one great-grandchild Cora Saxton; several nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Carilion Hospice and Carrington Cottage for their compassionate care.
Interment will be at Millinocket Cemetery. Due to the current pandemic, a graveside service will be held at a later time.
