Obituary for James E. Naaykens Sr.

Medway – James Edward Naaykens Sr. 76, a lifelong resident of Medway, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, February 22, 2022.

He was born April 21, 1945, the only child, to Edward and Mae (Kimball) Naaykens. He graduated from Schenck High School in 1963. On July 10, 1965, he married the love of his life, Dale Richards, whom he shared almost 50 years with. They built their life in Medway, where they had three children.

Jimmy made his career at Great Northern Paper as maintenance where he spent many years and retired in 2001. During his life, he also worked part time as a constable for the local police department, was a member of the National Guard, the Machinist Union, a lifetime member of the American Legion and spent 27 years with the Medway Fire Department, many of those years as the Chief; a title in which he took great pride in.

During his life he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, riding his motorcycle, and camping with his family. In November of 1983, he became “Papa,” his favorite title. His grandchildren were the light of his life and he enjoyed many activities with them over the years, including yearly trips to the Skowhegan fair, and camping at various campgrounds around Maine. Most recently he enjoyed car rides to Patten with his son for fried clams, sitting on the porch enjoying the view of the lake with his daughter Cindy, and her companion Jeff, in Island Falls, and spending time with his childhood best friend, Paul Noddin.

He is survived by his three children: Cindy and her companion Jeff Beisaw, James Jr, and Wendy. His grandchildren: Julie, Heather, Tia, Aspen, Kyle, Gayle, Edward, Nicole, Michael, JT, and Jenny. He also had 18 great grandchildren and 1 more on the way.

He was predeceased by his mother, father, and his wife; Dale.

Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 PM Sunday, February 27th and Monday, February 28th from 10-11 at Lamson Funeral Home,11 Tamarack Street, Millinocket. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1 PM Monday, February 28 at Christ the Divine Mercy Parish, St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 58 Cedar Street, East Millinocket with the Rev. Dominc Savio, pastor, presider. Interment will be at a later date in the spring at Grindstone Cemetery in Medway.
